Unique, beautiful, graceful and mysterious whales

There is something special about whales; they are unique, beautiful, graceful and mysterious. Whales, dolphins and porpoises are collectively known as ‘cetaceans’ or simply ‘whales’ and there are currently 90 recognised species. These animals range is size from porpoises that are a little over a metre long, right through to the largest animal that lives on earth, the magnificent blue whale which can grow up to 24 metres and can weigh 84 tonnes. There are 14 baleen whales, 3 sperm whales, 22 beaked whales, 2 monodontidae (narwhal and beluga), 38 oceanic dolphins, 4 river dolphins and 7 porpoises.
