Rainbow Valley Conservation Reserve is located 75km south of Alice Springs, Northern Territory in Australia. The reason for its name is due to the sandstone layers of the rock formation resembling the colored stripes of a rainbow. The site is a protected area. In 1990, the reserve was setup to protect the unique sandstone formations, the Aboriginal art, artifacts and sacred natural objects around a large sandstone bluff. During the late afternoon of the day, the sun shines on the northwest-facing bluff turning the red-orange tone of the iron rich sandstone into gold
